13 Dec Meet our Senior Business Development Manager – Philip Govan
Tell us a bit about your time in McArdle Skeath?
I joined the business in the summer of 2018 and as Business Development Manager I manage all customer engagements. I have responsibility for identifying new customer requirements and developing high quality, compliance led supply chain solutions. I am also responsible for managing our key accounts where I am the main point of contact for a specific group of customers. In this role I coordinate interdepartmental activities to ensure our clients ongoing requirements are not only met but exceeded. Our company culture is very much customer focused and we take great pride in the level of service we provide.
This is a relatively new appointment, what made you take on this role?
From my very first point of contact and right through the entire interview process I got a real sense of what the company is all about:delivering a compliance led five-star customer experience. McArdle Skeath currently hold licenses for HPRA (Health Products Regulatory Authority) for our Dundalk and Dublin sites along with four licenses (Process, Storage, Transport& Repackaging) from the Department of Agriculture, Food & Marine. We also hold “Known Consignor” status from the Irish Aviation Authority for “pick and pack” operations that are shipped by Air Freight from major airports to destinations across the world. Additionally, we hold certification from ISO to the new 2015 standard along with being a “Gold Standard” recipient from the Freight Transport Association of Ireland for transport compliance. We hold AEO status from the Department of Revenue and a Storage and Distribution license from the British Retail Consortium and have been successfully audited by the U.S FDA (Food & Drug Administration) and the CNCA from China. These accreditations and the ongoing commitment that’s required to retain such high standards were key factors for me when taking on this role. Quality supply chain solutions really is the cornerstone of our business.
What sectors do McArdle Skeath service?
The main sectors that we service are Pharmaceutical, Medical Device & Nutritional (Infant Formula). Our focus is on sectors that have a compliance requirement. We see compliance as an opportunity to deliver the very best supply chain solutions.
What makes McArdle Skeath different?
Our ability to innovate and diversify is what makes us different. We actively look to develop services that meet our customers requirements, such as diversifying into Value Added Solutions (Repackaging,Product Inspections etc…), trialling and adjusting processes and establishing innovative services such as cold-chain storage. We have our own in house team of“Subject Matter Experts – SME’s” who managed all project management responsibilities for our new state-of-the-art facility in Dublin. This was broken down into separate packages i.e: steel, electrics, concrete, racking etc… We delivered the project on time and within budget. Our in house capabilities reaffirm that Indigenous Irish Owned business continues to invest locally yet deliver globally.
What are your plans for the future?
Our Dublin facility has full planning permission to increase our total capacity from 50,000 pallet spaces to 100,000 pallet spaces. We anticipate that this project will be completed within the next three years. This additional capacity will further enhance our reputation to offer global supply chain solutions.
What’s the most rewarding part of your role?
I’m very fortunate to be given the opportunity to meet our customers from the very beginning. This has given me a great insight into the challenges that our customers face, and to be able to provide tailored supply chain solutions is very rewarding. I also have a talented team of colleagues that work in a variety of different roles to assist me in my role, this combined with a collaborative approach to work has created a great working environment at McArdle Skeath.
